51% of births .. Why did Egypt reach third place in Caesarean section?
Caesarean section in Egypt has recently spread, with the rate almost doubled from 27.6 to 51.8% of total births between 2008 and 2014, until Egypt reached the third place in caesarean section. An in-depth study on caesarean deliveries in Egypt was conducted by the Population Council Under the auspices and supervision of the Ministry of Health and Population, the United Nations Population Support, the World Health Organization and the Embassy of Norway.
Dr. Khaled Al-Atifi, Director of the General Department of Maternal and Child Welfare, Ministry of Health and Population, explained the reasons for the increased trend of cesarean section according to the study conducted on 13 public hospitals and 3 private hospitals.
1. Lack of protocols for cesarean delivery.
2 - lack of resources such as painkillers and anesthesiologists to help with natural birth.
3 - Fear of prosecution in case of harm to the fetus.
4 - The desire of mothers .. 50% of doctors confirmed that the requests of women caused the increase in caesarean delivery rates.
5. Lack of adequate training for the delivery of natural deliveries to newly graduated doctors.
6 - the physical motivation obtained by the doctor, as the cost of cesarean deliveries exceeds the natural.
7 - Some doctors see it as a means to improve skills and training cases, especially in government hospitals.
